Guatemala Medical Brigades

- Our work is focused in Rural latino and indigenous communities in Guatemala
- 16.6 million people
- 44.50% of the rural population lacks access to basic or safely managed sanitation facilities
- 13.4% of the rural population live below national poverty line
- Community Health Representatives are called Health Promoters an initiative established by the Ministry of Health
- Brigade itineraries offered for only 7 day Medical Brigades & 8-9 days with additional components
- Gynecology is on a community-to-community basis
- Clinics are run in community schools
- Community volunteers facilitate intake, adult charla* and serve as runners and translators given the 3-way translation needed at times
- Each brigade includes 1 cultural day
- If brigade is empowered or scaled, the additional stations they get are: Dental (fillings), Vision, and a specialist defined by the in-country team
